SROI Network to hold one day workshop in India

This October we’ll be holding a one day workshop to help funders and growing social purpose organisations learn more about the practical application of Social Return on Investment in India.

International interest in SROI is growing as an approach to account for and manage the social and environmental impact of an organisation’s work. Over the last couple of years a number of organisations have started to explore SROI in India.

This event will provide an overview of SROI, what it is and how it works. It will look at how it can be used in different situations and for different purposes. A number of organisations that have used SROI in India will present case studies of their experience. There will also be an opportunity to share experience and consider how the approach can be developed in India and whether a national network would be helpful.

Jeremy Nicholls, the CEO of the SROI Network will be facilitating the day.

Guardian Identifying, measuring and demonstrating social value seminar

The Guardian with be holding a seminar on Identifying, Measuring and Demonstrating social value in London on 12th June 2012.

The Public Services (Social Value) Act 2012 highlights the need for local authorities and organisations across the wider public sector to ensure suppliers can demonstrate that social, economic and environmental concerns are at the heart of public sector procurement. Commissioners and service providers are under pressure to cut costs and do more, and better, with less. There are challenges on all sides to measure and evaluate the impact decisions have on the wider community.

This seminar will look at the importance of measurement and assessment techniques, embedding social values through tendering and contract management, and a variety of evaluation and monitoring tools. SROI Network director Jenni Inglis will be participating in this seminar as a speaker.

"An Introduction to Measuring Social Value" - new training course now available

The SROI Network is pleased to announce a new training course - "An Introduction to Measuring Social Value."

The first date will be held in London on 26th June 2012.

It is important to understand the value we create to know if we are making a difference or not, and what the difference is. Often we know anecdotally what difference we make and we have good evidence of the activities that we deliver.

But what about evidence of the results and outcomes? What do people do with the opportunities that we give them in their lives and in the world beyond our contact with them?

Using SROI principles and parts of the process of SROI, this practical introduction will focus on understanding social value. The day will develop understanding through exercises, group discussion and real examples of valued outcomes. The level of rigour and resources required to measure social value will also be examined for different scales, audiences and objectives.
